Modern Mentoring

Welcome to my book blog page. I recently attended a conference for the Association for Talent Development (ATD) chapter leaders in Arlington VA. What an amazing event as a first time attendee, I had the opportunity to network and learn with so many like-minded professionals in the field, and be inspired by the successes of other chapters. During this conference, I had the pleasure to hear keynote speaker Randy Emelo, founder and Chief Strategist of River, a Denver-based company that builds mentoring, coaching, and social learning software. Emelo’s presentation on the concept of Modern Mentoring instantly intrigued me.

The concept is built on the strong foundational adult learning theory of self-directed learning. This presentation took us on the journey of revamping out mindset from a rigid and traditional mentoring program, to one that is equipped to meet the needs of lifelong learners in the workplace. An innovative, modern, and flexible way to enable people in the workforce with the resources and ability to instantaneously tap into the knowledge of peers within the organization; locally and globally. The need for learners to expand their leaning network is paramount, and a Modern Mentoring culture cultivates that individual and business need.

Join me in this book blog discussion as we peel back the pages, and learn together on how to create a Modern Mentoring culture in our workplaces.
